Surveilance

According to The DePauw, DPU's public safety was using cameras in cop cars to record certain activities on fraternity bid night.
Angie Nally, director of Public Safety, confirmed that as fraternities honored their newest members, cameras installed into Public Safety officers' vehicles were recording behaviors of men which were deemed to violate the law.

She said that most footage captured involved students who were publicly intoxicated and multiple incidents of indecent exposure amongst male students. The nudity appeared to be involved with "boulder runs," a campus tradition where students run naked from living units to the boulder next to East College.
My first thought is that this is super creepy. Like...super creepy. But I don't necessarily think the university was doing anything improper. There's a lot of risky behavior that goes on on bid night, and they need to be aware of what's happening so they can keep the students safe. Though I will say that I hope this doesn't cause boulder runs to go by the wayside; it's a campus tradition that I really don't think is that big of a deal from a law enforcement perspective.

As far as implications go, the fraternities are going to have to be very much on their toes about risk management from here on out. Ideally, they'll keep better track of their guests and reduce the amount of alcohol consumed on their property. Unfortunately, what will probably happen is just covering up windows and trying to push these behaviors further underground.
